Small-Space Strategies

PhotoWhether you're new to condominium living and learning to adjust to a smaller space, or you've started to feel a bit closed-in at home this winter, here are a few coping strategies.

  • Learn to live with less. Less stuff means more space, so edit your belongings: if you don't need it or love it, get rid of it. Be more discerning about what you buy and bring into your condo, and consider adopting a "one in, one out" policy: for every new item you bring home, you must throw out, donate or sell one old item.
  • Keep things organized. Even with less stuff, small spaces can quickly feel cluttered. Clutter makes spaces seem smaller and can even contribute to your stress levels. So make sure everything has a designated place in your condo.
  • Get out more. Remember: as a condo dweller, your living space isn't limited to your unit. Take advantage of whatever recreational facilities your condo has, like a gym, pool, and events like movie nights. Find out what your neighborhood has to offer, and explore your local cafés, community centers and library, for instance.
  • Focus on the positive – everything that's great about the condominium lifestyle. For example, less space means not having to buy so many things to fill it, which means more money in your pocket. Fewer square feet also means less time spent cleaning, which means more time in your week to do as you please!

Real estate sales representatives often know about local leisure facilities and activities – please call to learn more about your area!
